Query was a Disciple of Tron,[2] who was raised with stories of Tron.[3]

TRON: Identity

In 2023,[4] Query was assigned to solve a robbery occurring at the Repository, along with the mystery surrounding it,[5] by Prinz, an ISO zealot. Once arriving, Query was nearly struck by a trio of programs on a 6th Gen Light Cycle before approaching the entrance of the Repository, where he met Grish. While in the lobby, Grish and Query formed a connection (Either hateful or befriending based on the player's choice), and he defragged Grish's Identity Disc, to which the two were brought up to the admin's office and they met the program who assigned Query to the case, Prinz.

While in the library, Query met it's individuals such as Ada, the building's Librarian, Sierra, an ambassador for the Automata. Query also met the rebel program, Proxy, who he either Derezzed or let inside the building, depending on the player's choice, on the Repository's landing pad. Upon defragging the Identity Disc of Cass, a young amnesiac program who was stationed to guard the Vault, the two both discovered that the Arq Grid is going to end.[6]

TRON: Catalyst

Following the investigation at the Repository, Query was ejected from the Disciples of Tron and failed to convince others of the impending termination of the Arq Grid.[1] He was also unable to prevent Cass from being recaptured. In the aftermath of these events, Query became a solitary program, often found at the Terminal Bar in Vertical Slice. Despite this, Query utilized his skills as a former detective to assist Exo and programs he cares about.[7]

Visually Novel

Prime, the owner of the Terminal Bar, referred Exo to Query for assistance in dealing with Core. During their initial meeting, Query requested that Exo check on his friend Weaver, a data broker residing in the Apartments Penthouse. In exchange, he offered to modify her identity disc, erasing incriminating memories to prevent Core from identifying her during a disc scan at the city's checkpoint.[7]

Check In

After confirming Weaver's safety—despite Weaver expressing concern that Query tends to worry excessively—Exo relayed the news to Query. As promised, he suppressed her memories of her crimes by editing her disc. Afterwards, Exo inquired if there was a way out of the city. In response, he recommended that she seek out the Automata at the Automata Embassy, located within the city.[7]

Second Coat

In another loop, Exo paid Query a second visit after being told by Vega to ask him to install a stronger, more experimental memory shield onto her disc to stop Core soldiers attacking in the future. Upon arriving at his usual table at the Terminal Bar, Exo encountered a Core soldier named Pseu ordering her to drop her disc on the ground, to which she refuses, beginning a fight between her and his squad. After she defeats them, she finds Query with Prime, who are hiding from Superior Guards. Exo informs Query that Weaver is safe, noting that she is using her knowledge of previous loops to her advantage. She also requests another disc encryption, which Query provides.[7]

Old Disciple

After looping once again, Exo explains her time-looping abilities to Query and seeks his assistance in escaping from Conn, who is planning to hand her over to the Automata as part of a deal. In response, Query shares details of his failed investigation at the Repository, revealing that Cass had knowledge of the Arq Grid’s impending destruction. However, the only program who could corroborate this information to the Disciples of Tron—Cass—is currently imprisoned by Core. Exo expresses her desire to free Cass, prompting Query to recall a female program—a former deputy of his—whom Exo reminds him of, and who is also searching for Cass. He provides Exo with his DoT badge, encoded to her disc, as a means of identification to the deputy. Query assures Exo that if she succeeds in rescuing Cass, he will offer his full support in return.[7]

Oasis

In the park, Exo encounters a program named Ludo, who informs her that a female investigator—Query’s former deputy—had fled following a confrontation with a Core officer. He provides Exo with a data fragment containing clues to track her down. Using the fragment, Exo uncovers three clues leading to the investigator's last known location. However, she eventually discovers that the investigator was killed by Proto in the Apartments while attempting to leave a message for Query, revealing Cass’ location. Proto is defeated and killed by Exo, who discovers Cass' whereabouts from programs in Temporary Storage.[7]

A Moment's Peace

After freeing Cass from Core, Exo initiates another loop and informs Query at the Terminal Bar that Cass is now safe and holds no resentment toward him for their prior imprisonment. Although Query does not recall his previous encounters with Exo due to the looping, he expresses a desire to help her defeat Core, believing she is the program completing the mission he should have finished many cycles ago. Exo, along with Oracle, instructs him to meet them in the Outlands, where they plan to regroup with their other allies. Before she leaves, Query gives her code to use the Decoy ability, revealing that he got it from a man in the library of the Repository.[7]

After a defeating him in Oracle's lair, Exo relays to Oracle that Conn is seeking Spectre and Sierra in hopes of drawing her out. Query calls Exo and Oracle, telling them that he's gathered everyone to help.[7]

End Of Line

At Communication Tower Omega in the Outlands, Query reunites with Oracle and Exo’s allies following Exo’s final defeat of Conn. Reflecting on the events set in motion by his discoveries at the Repository, Query acknowledges that the truths he uncovered served as a catalyst, unleashing the worst in their world. Exo, however, reassures him that those same truths have also brought out the best—and that together, they now have the chance to prevent the end of the Arq Grid.[7]

General information

Personality and traits

Like most Disciples of Tron, Query is a program that seeks to uncover the truth at all cost while aiming to have no impact in the places he investigates. Despite this, his investigation at the Repository eventually lead him to make important choices that would impact the Grid as a whole, something that he notes the DoT would not approve.[6]

(Further elements of Query's personality and his relationships with other programs in TRON: Identity is dependent on the player's choices).

Following his investigation in the Repository, Query fell on hard times and lost all hope from this experience.[1] In the Terminal Bar, where he often resides, Query built a reputation as a lonely program who prefers solitude, according to a program named Kerr and the bar's owner, Prime.[7]

Skills and abilities

Query is highly skilled at defragmenting and modifying identity discs, which is a process performed by members of the Disciples of Tron to edit or restore aspects of a program's identity or code. Query performed this process throughout his investigation at the Repository to restore the memories of Grish and Cass.[6] He also used this process to assist Exo, which included suppressing her memories, encrypting her disc, and adding code for the Decoy ability.[7]

As a detective program, Query is very observant and detail-oriented. He is capable of noting the tone and emotions behind a program, able to deduce their motives and intentions while in conversation.[6]
