Proxy is a rebel program in the Arq Grid who traveled to the Repository following a theft, seeking code left behind by Kevin Flynn known as the "User Key."
Biography
Background
Adjunct War
Proxy was one of the many inhabitants of the Arq Grid created by Kevin Flynn in order to protect the ISOs from Clu 2's Purge. She originally fought alongside Grish during the Adjunct War, where she was a rookie soldier. During the war, Proxy and Grish huddled behind a barricade after a tank had shook it. After yelling to Grish that the enemy knew they were there, Grish told her to keep her head down to avoid their attention. She then sat down a began editing her Identity Disc due to it becoming fragmented. Grish offered her his flask containing energy, though she would ignore it, as she was consumed in her disc edits.[1][2]
Becoming a Thief
After the Arq Grid was left alone by Flynn, however, a society and civilization was created, with Proxy beginning to live outside the established hierarchy and as such, becoming a rebel program, gaining the reputation of a thief.[3] Proxy had stolen a Recognizer used during the Centicycle War, where it was used to help win the war by preventing a battalion of Core Peacekeepers from entering the Outlands until further help could arrive. After the battle, Proxy took this Recognizer as her own personal transport, using it to commit some of the biggest crimes and incursions of the last thousand cycles of the Arq Grid.[4] Proxy was the leader of a gang which Spectre was once a member of.[5]
Investigation into the Repository explosion
When an explosion had occurred at the Repository, Proxy arrived on a landing pad using her stolen Recognizer during the aftermath of the theft in order to see if she could benefit from the explosion. However, she instead crossed paths with detective Query. She reveals to him that she is seeking a piece of code called the "User Key," left behind by Flynn, which would empower a program and give them new abilities.[2]

Proxy holds Prinz hostage on the Landing Pad.
While Proxy and Query seemed to engage in a brief disc fight, the detective chose to drop his Identity Disc, allowing Proxy to enter the Repository. Proxy eventually captured Prinz, the Core administrator of the Repository, and threatened to kill him at the Landing Pad if he didn't tell her where the User Key was, as she had Prinz on his knees, Query arrived and begged her to stop, but Proxy refused. Grish eventually arrived at the pad too and reunited with Proxy under this tense scenario.[2]
As Proxy decided to take Prinz away so that he could guide her to someone who knew where the User Key was, she opened her wing chute and flew away after Grish froze and Query didn't stop her.[2]

Disappearance
Proxy's Recognizer on display at the site of its biggest victory during the Centicycle War, where it serves as a warning to all who enter Reset's territory in the Outlands.
Following the events at the Repository, Proxy disappeared, either due to being derezzed by Query or fleeing on her wing chute. Upon her disappearance, the Recognizer she had used was placed back in the Outlands at the site of its biggest victory during the Centicycle War, where it serves as a warning to all who enter Reset's territory.[4]
General information
Personality and traits
Proxy is a smart and skilled rebel program and thief who is willing to put up a fight. Like most ISOs, Proxy is independent, however, she also didn't give herself a function in the Arq Grid, which is an alien concept to most programs. She chooses to not fulfill any higher purpose but rather her own needs and ambitions. Proxy is chaotic, taking advantage of any situation and even proudly proclaiming to be a thief in front of detective Query. She is shown to speak in a sarcastic manner, as described by the game's narration.[2] Briefly, she shows sadness when recounting her time with Grish during the Adjunct War, though she quickly brushes it off with bravado.[2]
Skills and abilities
Due to her reputation, Proxy seems to be a competent thief, able to sneak and successfully look or retrieve things. She was also able to find and capture Prinz without anyone knowing until it was too late. Proxy seemed to be skilled in the use of her identity disc, as she was quick to threaten Query with it, although she would be derezzed by the detective if he chose to fight her.[2]

Proxy
Independence without function is alien to you. You cannot process the idea of a program who seeks only that which they need, without fulfilling a higher purpose. Proxy is such a program, driven by survival and ambition. An unpredictable and chaotic element in the system.
Proxy is a thief, and well known to the DoT. How you deal with her presence will have a massive impact on events. Choose wisely, and quickly.
Proxy's Wing Chute
Originally a tool of the Black Guard of Flynn's master server, this seems to be a custom design created by Proxy or an associate. It will allow for a controlled fall, even from up here on the landing pad.
The device uses light barrier tech to slow a drop, if utilized with care by the program using it.
Proxy's custom version looks more than sturdy enough to carry the additional body weight of a hostage. She came here prepared for that possibility.
You are not wearing such a device. If Proxy is to be stopped, it will need to be before she jumps.

RECOGNIZER
Reminiscent of those seen on the ENCOM mainframe and Flynn's Grid, these recognizers were developed by Core based on their discoveries in Light Jet propulsion. Recognizers are said to have turned the tide of the Adjunct War, securing Core's control of the Arq Grid.
This recognizer was not held by Core, however. Stolen by the legendary thief Proxy, it won the Centicycle War by holding back a battalion of Core Peacekeepers from entering the Outlands, until help could arrive. After the battle, Proxy took it as her own personal transport, and used it to pull off some of the most audacious crimes and incursions of the last thousand cycles.
Upon Proxy's disappearance, her Recognizer was placed here, the site of its biggest victory, as a warning to all who would dare to enter the Reset territory. It stands sentinel, and even as the glitch storm reclaims it, reminds all who see it of Proxy's dignity.
Trivia
- Proxy shares the same name as one of the Fortnite skins released in 2021.
- Proxy is presumably named after a proxy server, a server application that acts as an intermediary between a client requesting a resource and the server providing that resource in computer networking.
