- "No. I find myself more aligned with Automata. The Users, if they existed at all, have turned their backs on us. Core are waiting for a server that will never ping. I knew that if I wanted to fix this, I'd need to come out here for myself. I'm independent. Too much so, arguably."
- ―Oracle to Exo[src]
Oracle is a scientist program who resides in the Outlands of the Arq Grid studying the glitch in the server. She had ordered the transport of the glitch catalyst, intending to give it to herself so she could have infinite time to figure out how to fix the glitch storm in the Grid. Instead, Exo, a courier program, was exposed to it during one of her deliveries in Vertical Slice. Far from being upset or jealous, Oracle was overjoyed to learn her theories are true, and assisted Exo in defeating Conn.
Biography
Background
Oracle had studied the glitch for some time, theorizing it to possess time manipulation abilities, such as looping over events and changing outcomes. She once presented her theory regarding these abilities of the glitch and the loop to the Academy of Boron City. However, she was laughed down immediately by the assembled academics.[1]
Residing in the Outlands
At some point, Oracle would begin to reside in a research station in the Outlands to further study the glitch, with Reset allowing her to use the station.[2] She invented entanglers, devices that allow a program experiencing glitch loops to edit their position in the loops, effectively acting as a geographic checkpoint.[3]
TRON: Catalyst
Oracle had ordered the transport of the glitch catalyst, intending to give it to herself so she would have infinite time to figure out how to fix the glitch storm in the Grid. However, Exo, a courier program, was exposed to it during one of her deliveries in Vertical Slice when the package containing the glitch catalyst exploded.[4]
Once A Courier
Once he received the stolen code from the Training Dojo in Arena 4A, Vega revealed to Exo, a courier program, that the cargo she was carrying that exploded was the glitch catalyst, a part of his colleague Oracle's research. He tells her to find Oracle in her lab in the Outlands.[4]
Establishing Connections
Oracle stands next to an entangler in her laboratory in the Outlands.
Upon meeting Exo in her foothold in the Outlands, Oracle was excited to meet her, as she had known of Exo from her sources. She revealed to Exo that she hypothesized that exposure to the proper amount of glitch catalyst would allow one to see a linear perspective of the compounding error. Oracle expressed remorse to Exo over the catalysts exploding, explaining that they were headed to a safe place. Exo asked her if the Arq Grid is ending, to which Oracle confirmed, hence why she is trying to find a way to fix the glitch. Oracle explains that Core has been waiting for a sever that will never ping, so she felt the need to fix this in the Outlands, near the glitch storm. She then introduces Exo to hexagon-shaped devices she's created called entanglers, which will allow Exo to return to it upon her next loop when she is derezzed.[4]
Hypotheticals
After Exo activates the Entangler, Oracle hastily throws her disc at Exo to derezz her to verify that the Entangler works. Exo loops back at the same Entangler 10.3 centicycles after catalyst, to a point before meeting Oracle. After meeting Exo for the first time again, Oracle suggests that she get to finding Reset.[4]
Playing Catch Up
On her way to Oracle's lair to see Sierra and Spectre, Exo is confronted by an Automata sage named Tan, who requests that she turn her Identity Disc over to him. Exo explains that Sierra is in danger and she's in a hurry to meet him. Insisting that Sierra is well-protected, he orders her again to hand him her disc, which she refuses, leading to a skirmish between her and him. Exo derezzes Tan and arrives at Oracle's foothold. However, she is too late, as Sierra and Spectre were heading to the dock, despite Sierra being Oracle warning them of the danger of meeting Conn outside.[4]
Second Chance
Oracle in mirage form explains to Exo how she traveled back in time to the point of Conn's interrogation.
As Exo was walking out of Conn's office in Arena 4A following another time loop, Oracle appeared to her in mirage form. She explained to Exo that after she was derezzed by Conn, she gathered her research and data from entanglers and headed to the river to study a way to join Exo on her time traveling. She discovered a way to not only join Exo, but to help her move between different loops on her journey, through the experiences that brought Exo to the Outlands. Additionally, Oracle revealed that she can use her entanglers to "lock" Exo's alterations to the timeline. Oracle encourages Exo to begin helping other programs to make allies to stop Conn in the Outlands. She suggests to help Horii first.[4]
Master Control
Switch, Exo, and the squad reach the central console of the Control Nexus after defeating a Core division. Switch gives a voice broadcast to the Core facility, saying Reset has full control of the Refinery and will return what was stolen from innocent programs. They tell Core that the Grid belongs to the programs. Oracle locks this outcome for Exo, and Switch thanks Exo for her assistance.[4]
Script Kiddie
Following her successful break-in of the Automata Embassy, Exo stepped into the Induction Chamber with the Automata code flowing through her circuits. Oracle reassured her that the machine will not be usable for some time, and that she'll lock its destruction for future loops.[4]
Prophetic
Exo tells Cass that Oracle can secure specific outcomes, including their freedom from Core, even when Exo travels back in time. Cass thanks Exo, and asks her to tell Query not to worry about them, though they are aware of his concern.[4]
A Moment's Peace
Exo, along with Oracle, instructed Query to meet them in the Outlands, where they planned to regroup with their other allies. Before Exo left, Query gives her code to use the Decoy ability, revealing that he got it from a man in the library of the Repository.[4]
Gather Yourself
Oracle and Query tell Exo that she's not alone in the fight against Conn in the Outlands.
After defeating him in Oracle's lair, Exo relays to Oracle that Conn is seeking Spectre and Sierra in hopes of drawing her out. Query calls Exo and Oracle, telling them that he's gathered everyone to help.[4]
Reunite With Oracle
After gathering allies again, Exo reunites with Oracle at her lab. She explains to Exo that she's secured Sierra and Spectre at the furthest tower in the Outlands and that she gave them her research code to protect them from the glitch storm.[4]
End Of Line
Oracle stands with her and Exo's allies on Communication Tower Omega in the Outlands. From left to right, Horii, Query, Vega, Exo, Moto, Sierra, Spectre, and Oracle.
At Communication Tower Omega in the Outlands, Exo reunites with Oracle and their allies following her final defeat of Conn. Oracle confirms to Exo that Conn and his forces are gone, noting the possibility that Conn was given technology by the Automata, which shielded him from being instantly derezzed in the glitch storm. She later noted that whatever her and the allies do to save the Arq Grid, it will be "interesting."[4]
General information
Personality and traits
Oracle is shown to be a cheerful and energetic program who is intrigued by scientific discovery, and tends to work independently. She arranged for the glitch catalyst to be transported, planning to use it herself and gain unlimited time to solve the glitch storm threatening the Grid. Instead, Exo was exposed to it during a delivery in Vertical Slice. Rather than reacting with anger or envy, Oracle is thrilled to see her theories confirmed and helps Exo work to save the Grid. However, Oracle can be overconfident in her findings, which occasionally leads her to act hastily, such as when she derezzes Exo to test her Entangler device, and shows little concern about the possibility that Exo could derez from using experimental code, confident she’ll respawn unharmed.
She considers herself more aligned with the Automata, believing that if the Users existed at all, they have long since abandoned the Arq Grid.[4]
Codex (TRON: Catalyst)
ORACLE
This all started when you were exposed to glitch catalyst Oracle uncovered in the Outlands. You hope that when you find her, she has answers to your questions.
You're scared she might not.
ORACLE'S FOOTHOLD
Oracle has established an impressive presence up here in the outlands. Her research station provides protection from the elements as she experiments with glitch catalyst in search of a solution to the coming storm.
An uneasy peace with the Reset warriors who control this area has left the station relatively safe. While their secretive customs appear to have helped them survive the storm, they must know that Oracle's work is as necessary as it is disruptive.
You hope Oracle finds the answers she is looking for.
